We have been working really hard on our calendar art. First we had to die the background. Next we had to paint on the branches with brown paint. After that we had to paint on the leaves with yellow and white paint. We used cotton tips to help us. Then we had to sponge on the bodies of the birds using semi circle shaped sponges and paint. Finally we drew on our wings, tails, eyes and beaks with black vivid. We had lots of fun.

Shadows!!
This term our junior syndicate have been involved in a science rotation where we have been looking at magnets, shadows, light and sound. Here are some photos of us experimenting with our shadows...
We are learning that in order to have a shadow, there must be a light source. I wonder if you can guess which light source we are experimenting with in these photos??
Science Evening!
On Wednesday we had a science evening at school! We were able to show our families all of the exciting experiments we have been doing at school this term. We have been looking at natural phenomena such as magnets, shadows, light and sound. In room 4 we are exploring and experimenting with light and shadows. Here are some photos of us experimenting with torches. What are we learning?...
We learnt that some objects let more light through than others. Here, we are sorting objects into three different groups: 1) Opaque, 2) transparent and 3) translucent.
What does it mean if an object is Opaque?
Is this object Opaque?... Yes - because it is not letting light through. This also means that a shadow is formed because the object is blocking the light from getting through and forming a shadow!
Look I am clever! I can draw around my own shadow! Can you make a shadow and draw around it?
We even had some mad scientists join us!
We certainly had lots of fun. We really enjoy asking questions about the world around us and exploring and experimenting to help us come up with solutions and answers to some of our questions...

Fantastic fun with Nicole!
Guess who came to visit us a couple of weeks ago?... Miss Head's twin sister Nicole! We got to do some really cool art with Nicole, which we really enjoyed. We think Nicole is really neat!!

Swimming!
Spring is here! Swimming weather is just around the corner. I wonder how many skills we can remember from our swimming lessons at Huia Pool?... Lets take a walk down memory lane...
